CCO Standard of Care: Patient Carol

Dr. David Webster 4 April, 2018

PET ACCESS is a Cancer Care Ontario (CCO) committee that will consider requests for a PET/CT scan for a patient which is not routinely covered by OHIP. They would not allow “Carol” to have PET/CT before her treatment and as a result she underwent a mutilating radiation therapy to her pelvis that the PET/CT allowed only after her therapy, demonstrated this therapy was contraindicated. They have refused to acknowledge or respond to questions “Carol” submitted to them. It was my efforts to prevent this from happening to “Carol” that lead directly to Cancer Care Ontario threatening me if I continued to talk to physicians or patients about PET.
