PET/CT case study: lung cancer

Lung cancer was the first accepted world standard of investigation of and management of a cancer and was the standard in Chile almost 20 years ago. Up to 90% of the OHIP funded PET scans are for the investigation of possible lung cancer and management. The CCO ‘seal of approval’ indications are the exact opposite of the entire world expert body of opinion on the appropriate roles for PET in lung cancer. These two videos make clear why if a physician living outside Ontario’s borders were to use these indications on their patients, they could be charged with incompetence or worse.
